Long-term Supports

What are the challenges?
Under current law, people who are eligible can enter an institution without having to wait (entitlement.) Support in the community is not an entitlement. Consumers and families wanting services in the community rather than in an institution may have to wait for years.
Where can we begin?
Shift funding from institutional services to high quality community services. Allow people in institutions to be supported in the community using the same funding.
What are the challenges?
The long term care system is complex, fragmented, and confusing for consumers and families.
Where can we begin?
- Eliminate the institutional bias and allow people a choice of community or institutional services.
- Expand and improve the Family Care program.
- Provide funding assistance to all counties to create a "one-stop shopping" source of information and assistance.
